The France Ambassador to Ghana, Francois Pujolas, has expressed his country’s readiness to assist Ghana build its tourism sector.

According to him, the current government has shown commitment towards enhancing tourism in the country which warrants support from other economies.

Mr. Pujolas also believes this could be done through capacity building programs for hotel operators, chefs among others.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Mr Pujolas said he believes Ghana’s tourism sector will see some significant growth through the new partnership with France.

“We can help Ghana’s tourism sector through capacity building programs with the expertise we have from France and I’m sure that will go a long way to help grow the sector”.

He added, “We have seen that the government is taking a lot of initiatives towards this goal already”.

He spoke to Citi Business News on the sidelines of a media briefing on the upcoming 4th edition of international Good France Event which will bring together restaurants all across Ghana.

“To partner with restaurants here in Ghana and see it develop and I’m sure that is already the case. I’m also sure that those participating in this event this year will use Ghanaian products; they are Ghanaian chefs where some will even transform and adapt with French influences. So for this kind of cooperation to build the hospitality and culinary sectors is what we are aiming for,” he added.

About ‘Goût de France/ Good France’

This year, on March 21, 2018, in its 4th edition and in 150 countries around the world, restaurants and embassies will offer 3000 dinners to celebrate France’s gastronomy, listed by UNESCO as a “World Cultural Heritage”, by inviting the public to savour a French dinner.

In Ghana, this year, fifteen restaurants will participate in the event. Each chef will offer a “French-style” menu in his restaurant with a traditional French aperitif, an appetizer, one or two entrees, a selection of French cheese, one dessert, French wines and champagnes, while remaining free to highlight their own culinary traditions and cultures.

In each participating restaurant, the event will pay tribute to a vibrant, open and innovative cuisine, while remaining true to its values of sharing, pleasure, and respect for good food and for the planet.

The menu’s price is at the restaurant’s discretion, and they are all encouraged to donate 5% of proceeds to a local NGO promoting health and environment. This will be a rare opportunity in Ghana to discover and enjoy the ‘Taste of France’ here in Ghana.
