With just about 24 hours for the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta to present the 2019 Budget on, some civil servants are calling for economies that will improve their wellbeing.
According to them, government must try to reduce the prices of petrol and electricity tariffs to make life easier for them.
Citi Business News visited the Ministries and spoke to workers— where most of them appealed to government to announce measures that will improve the living conditions in the country.
Daniel Ofori who works at the Ministry of Education told Citi Business News he wants government to address the high cost of petrol in the country.
“They should reduce the taxes on petroleum products. The high cost of petrol is affecting the prices of all other goods in the country and this is making living difficult for us”, he lamented.
Another civil servant, Kwame Danquah, appealed to government to invest more in tax education in order to increase compliance in the country.
“I believe government should make provision to invest in tax education. As it is now compliance is low because the ordinary people in the country do not understand why they should pay taxes so government should do more in this regard”, he said.
Another worker , Isaac Arthur who spoke to Citi Business News said a general reduction on all taxes in the country is what he is expecting to be announced in the budget.
“Everything is expensive now. Fuel prices have affected everything so what I want is for the Finance Minister to announce a reduction of all taxes in the country”.
The 2019 budget will highlight how government intends to maintain macroeconomic stability, boost revenue streams and agriculture production while promoting private sector growth.
