The Electrical and Electronics Exporters Association of Turkey have called on government to focus more on improving the efficiency associated with the transmission and distribution of electricity in the country.
The Vice Chairman of the Association, Mehmet Kavaklioglu made the call at the ongoing Turkey-Ghana Business to Business Summit.
The Turkey-Ghana Business to Business Summit, organized by the Turkish Electrical and Electronic Exporters Association, with support from the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) and The Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, brought together eleven businesses from Turkey’s electronic sector and some Ghanaian businesses to interact and possibly form profitable business alliances.
Statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC) showed that Ghana’s exports to Turkey in 2017 amounted to $128 million, while its imports from Turkey were $224 million.
This the Vice Chairman of the Electrical and Electronics Exporters Association of Turkey, Mehmet Kavaklioglu believes must improve.
“The current trade numbers are not big enough. With Ghana industrial base growing step by step, and with Turkey also improving in the manufacturing sector we can cooperate. Because if you look at Turkey we have good quality products. Even though our products can be a bit expensive they are worth every penny. We have to increase the business potential of our two countries.”
Commenting on Ghana’s Energy sector and the inherent challenges such power losses during transmission Mr. Kavaklioglu called for a focus on improving efficiency along the electricity value chain to reduces losses and boost economic activity in the country.
“The most important thing to is to improve efficiency. You have to consider the losses to the end user and try to improve all aspects of the value chain.”
The comments of the Vice Chairman of the Association, Mehmet Kavaklioglu, comes on the back of recent intermittent power supply challenges being experienced in some parts of the country.
Some participants at the Turkey-Ghana Business to Business Summit shared their expectations going forward after several hours of interaction.
“The main thing going forward is for business men and women in Ghana to visit Turkey. They have to come visit our factories and manufacturing plants to understand the quality we have to offer. We on our part are ready do more business in Ghana and Africa,” said, Mustafa Kinaci, CEO of Timsan Transformers.
Nana Oteng – Gyasi, the Business Development Director of Tropical Table limited said “It’s a good way for us as Ghanaians to share some of our knowledge and also learn from them in terms of how they produce their various products.”
