The Minority Spokesperson on Mines and Energy, Adam Mutawakilu has expressed concern about the recent wave of power outages across the country.
Sections of Ghanaians especially on social media, have in the past week complained about the incessant power outages in their neighborhoods.
Some have been questioning if the popular phenomena of load shedding locally called ‘Dumsor’ is back.
Speaking to Citi Business News on the recent unplanned outages Mr. Mutawakilu said the problem goes beyond individuals, as will compromise the ability of companies to produce to their maximum which will have an impact on government’s overall revenue if it is not addressed.
“Once the power outages continuous production will be disrupted. And once production is disrupted there will be a need to scale down on employment and lay off people. This will end up affecting government’s ability to generate the revenue it needs to embark on its developmental projects.”
When questioned about what could be accounting for the recent power outages Adam Mutawakilu said government is facing challenges in raising money.
He also blamed the situation on lack of gas and low generation.
